We had a vision support teacher visit the class to teach us all about our vision. We tried sim specs to step into the shoes of someone who has impaired vision and / or blindness to think about how they might experience the world. We found our daily tasks to be challenging! We felt a lot more aware of the challenges other people might be facing.
Problem Solvers
Linking to our learning about how mirrors work in Science, the class were given a problem to solve. Their problem was to find a way to see around corners. We had lots of fun being creative. We had to test our inventions and make adjustments and we had lots of success. There are lots more ideas like this on the website linked below.
In the style of Henri Matisse
In art we are learning about shape and colour. We learnt about Henri Matisse and how he used coloured paper cutting to create his artwork. We first challenged ourselves to do some drawings with one line without lifting our pen from the page and then used coloured card to create our favourite parts of the painting. We have really talented artists in year 3!
Christmas Crafts
Thank you to those who were able to come to the Winter Warmer today the children were brilliant, I’m so proud! While we were waiting for our turn to sing, we made angels to begin our window decorations and its looking lovely already. We hope to see as many of you as possible at church on Friday for more Christmas Carols.
Making Shapes
Another maths challenge we have faced has been making different shapes with straws and playdough. The challenge was to find all the different possibilities and work systematically.
Christmassy Classroom
Year 3 are ready for Christmas. We’ve continued our Christmas tradition from year 2 and have our names in our advent calendar to choose a bauble to decorate the tree.
City Planning in maths
In maths we have started a series of challenges to test out thinking skills. This challenge was all about making a series of houses for a city that had to fit certain criteria. Then we had to lay them out in an organised way to fit as many houses for as many families as possible. We felt like architects!
Fantastic Fossils!
In Science we have been observing and identifying fossils. We used our observational skills to draw our fossils and describe their appearance.
D.T. Shell structures
We have started our new D.T. project which is all about shell structures. Today we challenged ourselves to make these pull up 3D shapes. It was very fiddly and took a lot of patience and resilience.
God’s Creation
In RE we have been looking closely at the Creation Story. In response to our learning we made some Creation Story wheels. The class spent a long time working on these and took such pride in their work.
